Sanitary & Storm Sewers

SANITARY SEWERS
The City of Reedsburg has been collecting and treating wastewater since the early nineteen hundreds. The Public Works Department maintains approximately 47 miles of sewer main along with 9 lift stations. All the wastewater flows to the Wastewater Treatment Plant by gravity through a series of underground pipes. The lift stations are used to pump the wastewater from a low point to a higher point in the system so the wastewater can flow by gravity again. The wastewater is treated at the plant and eventually discharged to the Baraboo River.

User fees pay for treatment cost and the cost of maintaining the sewer mains. Customers are billed monthly on their utility bill. The sanitary sewer charge is based on the metered water usage. Occasionally those rates are amended by the Common Council, the rates are currently:

5/8”and ¾”: $13.00

1”: $25.35

1-1/4”: $36.45

1-1/2”: 48.50

2”: 76.25

3”: $140.95

4”: $233.45

6”: $464.65

Sewer Back-Ups
The City of Reedsburg is responsible for the sanitary sewer main, usually in the center of the street. The property owner is responsible for the lateral from the sewer main to the house. The City will only clean the sewer main in the street. The property owner needs to call a plumber if the lateral or other internal piping needs to be cleaned.

STORM SEWERS
Storm water is collected and discharged through a series of pipes, detention ponds, ditches and wetlands throughout the city and eventually discharged to the Baraboo River. Storm water is a very big issue due to the vital wetlands and ecosystem in and around the city. Reedsburg strives to make sure storm water is taken care of with new developments and existing developed areas. The Public Works Department maintains the entire system and during heavy storm events a Public Works crew is out cleaning plugged grates and culverts.

User fees pay for treatment cost and the cost of maintaining the storm sewer mains and detention ponds. Customers are billed monthly on their utility bill.  Each single -family home is charged 1 ERU or $4.30 per month.
