Baraboo River

Canoe the longest free flowing river in the nation - the Baraboo River.

This flowage has been largely reclaimed, and flows approximately 100 miles from its headwaters near Hillsboro to its confluence with the Wisconsin River south of Portage. The Reedsburg community has been actively removing logjams and installing new boat launches in an effort to make the river more accessible and enjoyable for river enthusiasts.

The City of Reedsburg and partnering communities want to continue the original Phase I study that begain in 2016 in the City of Baraboo. The initiative has had increasing momentum over the past several years. The intial study has suceeded with implementation funding at nearly $1.7 million. Communities and the County of Sauk are applying for a Phase II grant.
