Application Process

Minimum Qualifications:
  •  U.S. citizen;
  • 21 years of age;
  • Hold or obtain a valid WI driver’s license and have a good driving record;
  • High school or GE Diploma and successful completion of at least 60 college credits;
  • No felony or domestic abuse convictions;
  • Good physical condition with vision correctable to 20/20;
  • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays;
  • WLESB certification preferred;
  • Above average reading, writing, and interpersonal communications skills are essential.

Initial Application:
Applicants must submit Wisconsin Department of Justice forms DJ-LE-330 (including the three narrative questions) and DJ-LE-305.  These materials may be downloaded in the Police Officer listing on the city's Job Openings webpage, or may be picked up at the Reedsburg Police Department.

All materials must be submitted to Chief Patrick Cummings, Reedsburg Police Department, 200 South Park Street, Reedsburg, WI  53959.  All materials must be received no later than 8:00am on the posted deadline date.

Each applicant will be notified by mail where and when to appear for portions of the hiring process, and whether or not he or she will be invited to continue the process.

Written Test:
Qualified applicants will be invited to take a written test.  Those applicants will be notified of the testing location.

Oral Interviews:
The written test results will be used to invite a number of applicants to oral interviews.

Background Investigation:
Top candidates will undergo a very thorough in-depth background investigation.  Any candidate found to have been untruthful, less than forthcoming, or misleading at any point during the hiring process will be dismissed with prejudice from further consideration.

Conditional Offer of Employment:
The top candidate will receive a conditional offer of employment.  This offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of medical, background, psychological and physical ability examinations, and drug screening.  Candidates must successfully complete 14 weeks field training & 18-month probationary period; must establish residency within 20 miles of the city limits as a condition of employment.
